Moming is not glamorous, at least, not for me. But I have to say, the mom version has been my favorite version of myself so far because I learned to find beauty in simplicity. Though it may look different these days, I am still a big fan of beauty routines because of their ability to boost one’s mood and confidence! Here are a few of my favorite beauty tips for moms like me, who need to squeeze in some simple beauty rituals during naps and bedtime.
Shower at Night
How often have you heard a new mom say they were so busy they didn’t have time to shower? I’ve heard that a time or two, and I totally understand where they come from. But, showering is the ultimate beauty tip and hygiene should not be put on the back burner if you can help it. I found that showering at night when my kids are asleep has been my number 1 beauty tip because no one is waiting on you and you can take the time you need for yourself! Plus, getting into your bed knowing that you are squeaky clean is the best feeling!
Take Care of Your Skin
Taking care of your skin will benefit you for years down the road. Not only does it just feel yummy to hydrate your skin, it’s definitely one of the beauty tips that helps slow down the signs of aging when it seems like the odds are against you! If you’re looking for a quick morning and evening skincare routine to fit into your busy mom schedules, you can check out my past blog posts on “Morning Skincare Routine for Busy Moms,” and “Evening Skincare Routine for Busy Moms.” Though the skin on your face is important to take care of, don’t forget to moisturize your whole body! A good body moisturizer will keep you feeling smooth and supple all over! My favorite body lotion is Cerave Moisturizing Cream.
You Don’t Need a Reason to Wear Makeup
Of course this is one of my beauty tips! This is coming from a mom that doesn’t need an excuse to wear red lipstick on a random day at home playing with the kids. But, other than the occasional bold lipstick days, I love me some natural looking makeup! This is because of the ease of application and two, because it’s an simple way to look polished on a regular day. You’d be surprised how much getting ready with a little bit of makeup can make you feel energized and productive. If you don’t know where to start with achieving a simple makeup look that is both quick and natural, you can read through my “5 Minute Makeup Routine for Moms” blog post.
Style Your Hair Between Washes
Even though I recommend taking a shower everyday, I never said you needed to wash your hair everyday. I usually just use a shower cap on most days, but I try to wash my hair 2-3 times a week because it can be a slippery slope having a healthy amount of natural oils moisturizing your hair versus looking a bit too greasy for my personal taste. One of my not so secret tricks that allows me to wash my hair less and not look greasy is using a good dry shampoo. I love using the Volumizing Batiste Dry Shampoo. Another styling trick that I use on days that I want to look more polished is lightly rewetting my hair with this hair mister. I love this spray bottle because I’m able to evenly mist my hair to the point where it is damp, but still half dry. Then I take a few passes with my Drybar Double Shot Hair Brush Blow Dryer, which is an easy and quick way for me to get the effortless volume of a blow out and smooth hair with just one hair tool.
Mom Bun
Moms are busy bodies. For that, I’ve learned to embrace the mom bun. Even if I have full intentions to style my hair and keep my hair down, inevitably it gets thrown up in a bun to get my hair out of my face or to cool down when I’m playing with my kids, cooking, or cleaning. If you want to be able to transition in and out of the mom bun seamlessly, without having unflattering hair kinks, you can try using silk scrunchies or a spiral hair tie. Other than decreasing the likelihood of hair creasing, they also don’t pull on your hairs, making them a gentler alternative than the traditional hair tie.
Drink Water
Drinking enough water is such an underrated, not so secret, beauty secret. Everyone knows that keeping hydrated has so many health and beauty benefits, but the one thing that I notice the most is how it affects my skin. It keeps my skin plump and hydrated as I age. And, it could be all in my head, but I feel like I have less blemishes when I drink more water. Through the years, I’ve become a firm believer that drinking enough water improves the overall health and appearance of my skin.
Get a Haircut
Last, but not least, my final beauty tip is when all else fails, get a haircut! Whenever I look in the mirror and just want to rezhush my look, I almost always end up scheduling a haircut. It doesn’t have to be a drastic change, but just getting a simple trim, or getting some new layers, so that you feel like your hair just sits right, could be all you need. There’s something about getting my hair done that makes me feel like a new, reenergized me!
Hopefully these beauty tips are easy enough to incorporate in your life, but pack a major punch when it comes to affecting your self-esteem in a positive way. Try one, or all of these beauty tips and you will be feeling confident in no time! And remember mamas, beauty routines, both big and small, only compliment the beauty that already radiates from the inside!
